Six Men Arrested After Illegal Guns Seized Near Binghamton
New York State Police say a half-dozen people face felony weapon possession counts after troopers confiscated illegal weapons in Broome County.
Two men were arrested following a traffic stop on Sunday on Upper Front Street in the town of Chenango, just north of Binghamton.
Authorities say the men were found to be in possession of several illegal guns and magazines that were not compliant with New York state's "SAFE Act." They also allegedly possessed illegal metal knuckles and suspected illegal drugs.
39-year-old Jeffrey Everetts of Sayre, Pennsylvania was charged with four felony counts of third-degree criminal weapon possession.
32-year-old Nephrem Holt of Albany was charged with two felony counts of third-degree criminal weapon possession and a misdemeanor count of fourth-degree criminal weapon possession.
Also on Sunday, four men were arrested as the result of a separate traffic stop in the same area. Troopers found them in possession of several illegal guns and illegal magazines,
56-year-old Robert Applegate II of Kinzers, Pennsylvania; 31-year-old Robert Applegate III of Lancaster, Pennsylvania; and 28-year-old Glen Applegate of Kinzers, Pennsylvania all were charged with three felony counts of third-degree criminal weapon possession.
29-year-old Trevor Sweigart of Lititz, Pennsylvania was charged with four felony counts of third-degree criminal weapon possession.
All six men were processed at the state police Kirkwood barracks and then arraigned at the Broome County Sheriff's Office. They were ordered held without bail.
