Site Prep Underway for Imperium3 Battery Factory in Endicott
Demolition crews are busy clearing space at Endicott's Huron Campus for a lithium-ion battery production facility.
The Imperium3 New York research and manufacturing project was announced in October 2017.
A massive rack storage system inside Building 48 on Hill Avenue now is being removed.
Huron Real Estate Associates president Chris Pelto said the job of taking out the old equipment should be completed next week. He said that would free up about 65,000 square feet of space for Imperium3.
Pelto said design and engineering work for the battery factory are continuing. He said space of the company's corporate offices should be ready at the Huron Campus on April 1.
The Huron property encompasses the site of the former IBM manufacturing complex in Endicott.
Paul Stratton, Imperium3 senior vice president of sales and marketing, said there still is a substantial amount of work needed in setting up the facility.
Stratton said the operation ultimately is expected to occupy about 300,000 square feet at the Endicott site.
