A representative of the Oakdale Mall said there's been no official word from the company about the future of the local store. But there are indications the Johnson City operation will be kept open.

JCPenney two weeks ago announced it plans to close two distribution facilities and up to 140 stores in the next few months.

The move to shut down some stores is part of an effort by the company to cut costs.

Business Insider reports that the Morningstar investor research firm has put out a list of nearly 40 JCPenney stores deemed to be "most at risk" of closing based on sales information.

According to that report, the JCPenney store at Destiny USA in Syracuse may be "at risk" of closing. The only other New York state store on the list was in Rockland County.

The Oakdale Mall Macy's store, which has 73 employees, is scheduled to close on April 18.
