Section 4 High School Football Playoff action is underway this weekend.  Class B and Class D teams opened quarterfinal play with a number of games Friday night.  At Maine-Endwell the Spartans rolled to a 38-12 victory over the Waverly Wolverines.  M-E moved to a 24-6 lead at the half and coasted to their sixth win of the season.

Quarterback Frank Meyer, starting in place of the injured Joe Mancini, excelled in running the Spartans' offense.  He got plenty of help from his running backs.  Ryan Brozovic ran for 162 yards, 78 of which came on a fourth quarter touchdown run.

The Spartans have now won five in a row and head to Norwich next weekend for a semifinal battle.  Norwich topped the Spartans 13-12 in the regular season  Norwich advances following their 38-22 victory over Windsor.

In another Class B quarterfinal Chenango Forks crushed the Chenango Valley Warriors 53-7 at Blue Devils Stadium.  The Blue Devils remain undefeated and move to 8-0.

In other Friday night games at Dick Hoover Stadium Elmira edged the Vestal Golden Bears 34-28, Newark Valley defeated SVEC 42-14, Union-Endicott downed Corning 24-6, Bingha,mton toppled Ithaca 49-6, Tioga beat Elmira Notre Dame 33-14, Johnson City crushed Oswego 60-12 and Sidney knocked off Bainbridge-Gilford 40-32.
