High school football fans have been eagerly awaiting this weekend.  It's Kickoff Weekend in Section Four with high school teams set to begin a new season.

Most games are scheduled for Friday night starts while others are slated for afternoon or evening kickoffs on Saturday.

One very interesting match-up has the Chenango Forks Blue Devils hosting Owego on Friday evening.  Forks has been one of Section Four's most dominating teams over the past couple of decades.  The Blue Devils have nine consecutive victories over OFA and they have not lost a season opener in the past 21 seasons.

Also set for Friday evening is Susquehanna Valley's home game against Watkins Glen/Odessa-Montour.  The Sabers are the defending New York State Public High School Athletic Association Class C Champions.

Other Section Four teams in action on Friday evening include the Binghamton Patriots who play at Corcoran, Ithaca at Johnson City, Oneonta at Chenango Valley, and Waverly at Union-Endicott.

On Saturday several teams are participating in the Kickoff Classic at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.  Maine-Endwell meets Carthage and Newark Valley meets Indian River in two of those games. Also on Saturday Newark Valley is home to host Windsor in an afternoon battle.

News Radio 1290 will broadcast nine games this high school football season.  The first   "Game of the Week" coverage will be on Friday, September 13 when the Vestal Golden Bears travel to Alumni Stadium to meet the Binghamton Patriots at 7 p.m.
