“Secret Santa” Helps Holiday Bus Travelers
A "Secret Santa" is helping those who are unable to afford transportation on Broome County Transit buses this holiday season. In a press release from Broome County Executive Jason Garnar and Public Transportation Commissioner Greg Kilmer it was announced that an anonymous donor is providing funding for 111 single-use and 50 two-ride bus passes to needy individuals to ride B.C. Transit buses during this holiday season.
Speaking today (Monday) on News Radio 1290 WNBF with Roger Neel Commissioner Kilmer said the passes became available today and will be available to be used as long as they last. He said the anonymous donor wanted to brighten the spirits of as many transit riders as possible during the holidays. Kilmer says he was able to find another "Secret Santa" to match the original donor to help even more in need.
Those looking for the free bus passes need to contact Rebecca Rathmell, YWCA Street Outreach Coordinator & Housing Advocate at the YWCA. According to the release the passes will be distributed to transit dependent individuals who are in need of rides to work, healthcare, treatment centers, etc.
