Sarah Jane Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church is getting a historic designation.

The distinctive red-stone Gothic structure on Main Street in Johnson City is named by the New York Landmarks Conservancy as one of 19 Sacred Sites to share grants totaling $260,000.

Sarah Jane is getting $10,000 to help pay for protective glazing and door refinishing.

The church is named after the mother of George F. Johnson and hosts a magnificent sanctuary, a kitchen that serves weekly meals, class rooms and a gym with a floor that is made up of old shoe soles from the Endicott Johnson shoe factories.
