Five Mets Prospects Debut As Rumble Ponies Rattle Off Six Straight Wins

Time for a recap of the Binghamton Rumble Ponies' latest series. The Binghamton Rumble Ponies made a few changes to the lineup last week. On August 4th, the Mets organization announced that five prospects that the New York Mets acquired around the 2026 MLB trade deadline had been assigned to Binghamton.

The players included INF Jefferson Rojas (No. 1 & No. 63 overall), INF Émilien Pitre (No. 17), RHP Gary Gill Hill (No. 19), RHP Gabe Davis (No. 20), and INF Billy Amick (NR).

Well, these changes sure made a difference during the six-game series with the Hartford Yard Goats at Mirabito Stadium. Let's take a look at this exciting series, which included the record-breaking number of runs during one of the games for the Rumble Ponies.

Tuesday, August 4 - Rumble Ponies - 6  Yard Goats - 3

Mitch Voit recorded his fourth multi-hit game at the Double-A level and drove in two runs as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies defeated the Hartford Yard Goats, 6-3, on Tuesday night at Mirabito Stadium. Right-hander Channing Austin got the start for Binghamton and allowed just one run over 3 innings, and surrendered only two hits. 

The Rumble Ponies lineup had two new looks. Right fielder JT Benson made his Double-A debut, and second baseman Émilien Pitre made his Rumble Ponies debut after being traded to the Mets from the Tampa Rays in the Freddy Perlata trade on Sunday.

The Rumble Ponies offense added two runs in the third to go on top 3-1. Benson reached on a throwing error from third baseman Dyan Jorge to lead off the frame. Then shortstop Mitch Voit opened up his big night with an RBI double, and Vargas followed with an RBI single.

Wednesday, August 5 - Rumble Ponies - 3  Yard Goats - 1

R.J. Gordon recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts over 6 innings to lead  Binghamton to their third consecutive victory, as they defeated the Yard Goats, 3-1.

Gordon dazzled as he struck out 10 batters over 6.0 innings and surrendered just one run across three hits. The 10 punchouts are a career high for Gordon. He has struck out 24 batters over his last three starts that have spanned 16.1 innings.

Binghamton right-hander Saul Garcia got the ball in the ninth inning and notched his third save, which tied a team lead with Carlos Guzman. Gordon set a career high with 10 strikeouts and has 24 over his last 16.1 innings pitched.

Thursday, August 6 - Rumble Ponies - 23  Yard Goats - 3

The Rumble Ponies scored a franchise-record 23 runs on 21 hits, as seven different hitters recorded multi-hit games in a 23-3 rout of Hartford. Binghamton broke the record of 18 runs in a game that was set on April 11, 2008, at Erie. 

It is Binghamton’s largest margin of victory in franchise history, breaking the record of 14 runs set on July 27, 2025, against Reading. The Rumble Ponies led 1-0 entering the third inning, before erupting for eight runs in the frame to build a 9-0 advantage.

Twelve batters came to the plate in the third. Right fielder Yohairo Cuevas doubled to lead off the inning for his first Double-A hit, and second baseman Mitch Voit, who tied a single-game franchise record with five hits and five runs scored, drove him home with a single.

Voit tied Joey Terdoslavich for the most hits in a game, set on July 25, 2018, against Bowie, and tied Ryan Clifford for the most runs scored, set on July 27, 2025, against Reading.

Right-hander Gary Gill Hill tossed 5 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while striking out four in his first Double-A start with Binghamton and his New York Mets organization debut. The offense gave him even more support in the fourth inning, extending the lead to 13-0. Binghamton was one hit shy of a franchise record for hits in a game, which was 22, set on April 11, 2008, against Erie.

Friday, August 7 - Rumble Ponies - 1  Yard Goats - 0

From a record-high runs on Thursday to a squeaker on Friday, Right-handed pitcher Noah Hall matched a career high with 10 strikeouts in his second Double-A start, leading the Rumble Ponies past the Yard Goats 1-0 on Friday night at Mirabito Stadium.

Binghamton and Hartford were tied at 0-0 as they entered the bottom of the eighth inning, where the Rumble Ponies were being one-hit. Against right-hander Carlos Torres, center fielder John Bay led off the frame with a single, and one batter later, he sparked catcher Kevin Parada, who delivered the go-ahead RBI double, scoring Bay from first to make it 1-0.

Parada has delivered two go-ahead hits in the series, as he deposited a two-run home run in the 3-1 win on Wednesday night against Hartford.

Right-hander Noah Hall made his second Double-A start and dazzled. The 25-year-old pitched 6 scoreless frames and allowed just two hits. He also struck out 10 batters, which matched a career high for the second time in his career. Hall last did it on July 24 against High-A Jersey Shore, a Philadelphia Phillies affiliate.

It is the first time this season that two Binghamton starters have tallied 10 strikeouts each in one series, as right-hander R.J. Gordon did so on Wednesday night.

Saturday, August 8th - Rumble Ponies - 6  Yard Goats - 4

Binghamton won their sixth consecutive game, their longest winning streak of the season, as Jefferson Rojas tallied three hits in a 6-4 victory over Hartford.

In a 4-4 game in the bottom of the eighth inning, Binghamton took a 6-4 lead. Shortstop Mitch Voit led off the frame with a single and reached second base on a wild pitch before second baseman Émilien Pitre bunted for a hit.

Then, with runners on first and second base, third baseman Jefferson Rojas delivered the eventual two-run triple to give Binghamton a 6-4 lead. Rojas finished 3-for-4.

For the third time in this series, Binghamton took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Voit led off the inning with a walk and stole second base. Rojas drove in Voit with an RBI single, for his first RBI hit in the New York Mets organization. Voit has scored 19 runs in his first 10 Double-A games with six stolen bases.

Sunday, August 9th - Rumble Ponies - 4  Yard Goats - 3

The Rumble Ponies won their seventh consecutive game and swept the Yard Goats, winning 4-3. It marks Binghamton’s first six-game series sweep since May 27-June 1, 2025, against the Chesapeake Baysox. 

Binghamton right-hander Cristofer Gomez pitched 2 perfect innings with three strikeouts in his second Double-A appearance. Right-hander Bryce Jenkins followed in the sixth inning and tossed a perfect frame with a strikeout. 

Rumble Ponies right-hander Saul Garcia pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and in the ninth inning, right-hander Garrett Stratton notched his second save of the series and of the year, striking out three batters. Binghamton is now 5 games below .500 after being 12 games below that mark just seven games ago.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies will kick off a six-game series with the Portland Sea Dogs, the AA Boston Red Sox affiliate, tonight (August 11) at Delta Dental Park at Hadlock Field.
