New turning lanes have been put in place on a section of Riverside Drive in Johnson City.

The traffic pattern changes were quietly implemented this week as crews revised lane markings on part of the heavily-traveled link from the Binghamton city line to the Route 201 flyover.

In early September, new signs were installed alerting drivers that bicyclists would be allowed to use the full vehicle travel lane.

Specially-marked turn lanes now have been put into place at the entrance to Davis College and near intersections and business entrances.

The lanes should make rear-end collisions less likely because through traffic will be able to easily move around vehicles that are stopped in preparation for a turn.

Some minor adjustments also have been made to lane markings on the roundabout that connects Riverside Drive and Floral Avenue with Route 201.
