The Binghamton Bearcats men's basketball team suffered a heart-breaking defeat at UMass Lowell on Saturday afternoon.  The River Hawks came from a 31-24 deficit at the half to outscore the Bearcats 36-28 in the second half and earn a 60-59 victory.

Both team struggled shooting the ball.  Each hit just 35 percent of their shots.  Jahad Thomas led the River Hawks with 19 points while Willie Rodriguez paced Binghamton with 13 points, 11 of which came in the first half.  Thomas Bruce and Fard Muhammad each hit for 10 points for BU.

The game ended in bizarre fashion.  With the Bearcats trailing 60-57 in the closing seconds of the contest Willie Rodriguez put up a three-point attempt that missed but he was fouled by Jahad Thomas.  That sent him to the foul line for three shots.  He missed the first and made the second leaving the Bearcats two points short.  His third free throw shot was meant to hit the rim and miss enabling a potential game-tying tap-in.  Instead the free throw went in leaving Binghamton one point short. With point three seconds on the clock the River Hawks were able to inbound the ball and kill the clock to win 60-59.
