New York State Police say a Tompkins County man is facing a felony attempted murder charge after allegedly firing a weapon in the direction of two Troopers in the Town of Richford on September 3.

Authorities responded to a home on Light Road September 3, looking for 28-year-old James Haines of Richford who had been involved in a dispute in the Village of Spencer.

Troopers say when they found Haines at around 6:35 p.m., he fired a weapon at them and fled.  The officers were not hurt.

Authorities tracked Haines to a location off State Route 96 in the Town of Candor in Tioga County and he surrendered to them early September 4.

Haines is charged with one count of first degree attempted murder and additional charges are pending.
