Too much nitrogen added to some Southern Tier Brewing Company cans may cause the containers to bulge or even burst.

Wegmans has advised customers of a recall of some Pumking Nitro and Blackwater Nitro Chocolate Milkshake cans.

According to the supermarket chain, the reason for the recall was due to "reports of inconsistent nitrogen gas pressures that may lead to package integrity issues, including bursting cans."

Wegmans advised customers that they could obtain a full refund if they returned the affected cans to the store where they were purchased.

NewYorkUpstate.com reported Southern Tier Brewing had issued a statement about the issue.

The Lakewood company statement indicated some customers had seen "some of our nitro beer cans bulge and, in a small number of cases, burst."

The statement said the "issue happened while we were implementing and refining some new packaging equipment."

Southern Tier Brewing advised people who have any of the affected cans to throw them away and call 855-274-0047 for refund information.

The company said when the problem was identified, it was corrected for future runs.
