Sneak Preview: Inside the Soon-to-Open Owego Donut & Beer Co.
Construction is in its final stages at a Tioga County business that will attract those who enjoy donuts or beer... or both.
Owego Donut & Beer Co. will occupy a former grocery store building on North Avenue in the village.
Thompson's Grocery sold doughnuts, beer and plenty of other things in the seven decades it served people in the Owego area. The store closed in April 2018.
Ike and Julie Lovelass have been busy in recent months preparing to launch the new business. They've operated The Owego Kitchen restaurant on Lake Street for the past eight years.
Owego Donut & Beer Co. will feature fresh donuts made by Julie Lovelass. The establishment also will have a self-serve tap system that will allow customers to pour their own beer and other beverages.
The tap system will use what's called a "PourMyBeer" technology that is not currently being used in the area.
The food menu will include "classic Italian hoagies" and other specialty items. Traditional and craft beer selections will be available.
Ike Lovelass said he and his wife are trying to help the community with the development of the unique business. He said he expects it to be open by the third week of December.
