Rebecca Lobo Highlights Celebrating Women’s Athletics Luncheon

The Tenth Annual Celebrating Woman's Athletics Luncheon drew a reported record crowd of 550 to hear Olympic Gold Medalist Rebecca Lobo speak at the Events Center.  Funds raised through the event go to provide scholarships for outstanding female student-athletes at Binghamton University.  Over $250,000 has been raised since the start of the annual luncheon ten years ago.

Lobo is one of the nation's all-time great female athletes.  She was a standout on the basketball court at the University of Connecticut.  In 1995 she was a consensus National Player of the Year and led her team to its first National Championship.  The Huskies went 35-0 on the way to the national title.

Also in 1995 Lobo was named the 1995 Sportswoman of the Year by the Women's Sports Foundation.  In 1996 she won a gold medal as the youngest member of the U.S.Women's Basketball Team.  Following her olympic appearance Lobo enjoyed a successsful seven-year career in the WNBA.

Lobo is now a television sports analyst, author, motivational speaker and a mother of four.  She is married to Sports Illustrated columnist Steven Rushin.
