Police: Driver Clocked at 107 mph Before Crash
Authorities say a motorcycle operator who sped past a state trooper at more than 100 miles per hour died after he failed to stop and struck a guide rail in Steuben County.
According to state police, 27-year-old Albert Ventry of Niagara Falls was thrown from the motorcycle after it went off Interstate 86 in the town of Erwin May 11.
Investigators say a trooper running radar in a highway U-turn clocked the motorcycle at 107 miles per hour.
Police say the trooper activated his vehicle's emergency lights and tried to catch up with the motorcycle.
The bike continued at a high rate of speed. The trooper then came upon the scene of the crash, which happened on a curve near an exit for Painted Post.
Officials say the motorcycle had crossed a center grass median before striking a guide rail.
Ventry was pronounced dead by Steuben County coroner Al Lewis.
