Grilled cheese donuts could be available at a restaurant on the Vestal Parkway if a proposal by a group of Broome County residents is approved.

A Tom+Chee restaurant is being planned for a site across from the Town Square Mall.

Catherine Cornelius says she and two others are seeking approval from the town of Vestal for the project.

Tom+Chee restaurants feature what the company describes as handmade grilled cheese sandwiches and grilled desserts.

The proposed restaurant would be located at 2500 Vestal Parkway East. A house that previously was used as a doctor's office now stands on the site on the southeast corner of the parkway at Evergreen Street.

Cornelius says the ownership group is looking to bring "something new and exciting" to the area.

The Vestal town board is scheduled to review a request for a zoning change for the project at its September 25 meeting.

Cornelius says planning for the Vestal Tom+Chee restaurant has been underway for more than three years.

The restaurant would be open seven days a week and likely would serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Cornelius says she expects the business would hire "close to 80" people.

If there are no unexpected delays, she says the restaurant could open next spring.
