Penguins Ice BU Bearcats in Men’s Basketball
The Youngstown State University Penguins held the Binghamton Bearcats men's basketball team in check on Saturday afternoon at the Events Center in Vestal. The Penguins came away with a 58-48 victory to up their record to 4-8. The Bearcats fall to 3-8.
It was the first ever meeting between the two teams. Binghamton's women's basketball team defeated Youngstown last March in a WBI tournament game. The Penguins play in the Horizon League with most of the teams centered in the Midwest.
Forward Caleb Stewart had a stellar performance for the Bearcats. He was one rebound shy of a double-double. Stewart scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds. He also blocked four shots including a pair of rejections in the first minute of the game. Binghamton's leading scorer on the season, Sam Sessoms, was held to nine points. It was the first time in his college career he was held to single digits. Chancellor Bernard and Timmy Rose each scored seven points for BU.
The Bearcats have their next three games on the road. Binghamton heads to South Bend to meet the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Tuesday night (air at 6:45 on News Radio 1290 WNBF). The Bearcats then travel to New York to face LIU Brooklyn this Friday (December 21) in a noon start and then head back to the Midwest to meet fifth-ranked Michigan on Sunday, December 30.
