Owego’s Lights on the River Highlighted on Southern Tier Close Up
The President of the Historic Owego Marketplace, Bradley Crews is on the weekly, local public affairs program Southern Tier Close Up to talk about a Tioga County holiday tradition that even neighbors in Broome County may not be aware of.
Lights on the River takes place December 6 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. around the Front Street shopping district.
Crews says the streets are blocked off for the event featuring treats, shopping bargains, music, Santa and Mrs. Claus and a fireworks display to wrap everything up.
Crews says he was attracted to the charming nature of Owego years ago after growing up in a smaller community in Utah then living for a time in New York City.
He says while a lot of people concentrate on the history of Owego, the community has much more to discover, including evolving businesses including new dining experiences.
Following the Lights on the River event, Owego businesses prepare to keep their doors open late for Moonlight Shopping December 12 while First Friday events draw people to the riverfront every month.
