Ontario County Woman Seriously Hurt in I81 Rock-Cut Crash

New York State Police are investigating a late afternoon crash on Interstate 81 November 26 that left an Ontario County woman seriously hurt and backed up traffic between Whitney Point and Castle Creek for hours during rush hour.

The rollover crash on I81 South at the rock-cut between exits 8 and seven was reported shortly after 3 p.m. 

A 53-year old Farmington woman was airlifted to an area hospital. Her condition is unknown.

Authorities say the woman’s BMW left the highway for an unknown reason and rolled at least twice before coming to rest at the base of a rock escarpment.
Some reports had indicated other motorists saw the BMW drifting from its lane a few times prior to crashing.
