One Hurt as Minibus and Truck Collide in Town of Dickinson
A minibus with ten people on board slammed into a large pickup truck on a busy street in the town of Dickinson.
The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday on Downs Avenue, a short distance south of the Airport Road intersection.
A witness said the Chevrolet Silverado truck pulled from the parking lot of a Mirabito convenience store into the path of the Ford E-350 minibus. He said the driver of the southbound minibus appeared to veer to the left in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid colliding with the truck.
The operator of the truck was entrapped in the wrecked vehicle for a few minutes. He sustained cuts to his head and ear.
Broome Volunteer Emergency Squad medics worked to evaluate the other driver and the nine passengers who had been on the minibus. They apparently were uninjured.
The minibus reportedly was transporting people who are assisted by Community Options.
Prospect Terrace firefighters provided assistance to those who had been in the wrecked vehicles.
A New York State Police trooper was investigating the crash. It was not known whether he planned to issue any tickets.
