The 13th Annual Celebrating Women's Athletics Luncheon was held on Monday at the Events Center at Binghamton University. A record crowd of over 700 attended.  Proceeds from the event help fund scholarships for female student athletes at the University.

This year's keynote speaker was Shannon Boxx.  She won three Olympic gold medals, was a finalist for the 2005 FIFA World Player of the Year award and was a member of Notre Dame University's NCAA Women's Soccer Championship in 1995.  She also has local ties.  Her husband is from Apalachin and graduated from Vestal High School.

Boxx spoke about perseverance and desire to succeed as keys to her athletic career.  She struggled through numerous injuries through her career and was diagnosed with Lupus Sjogren's syndrome in 2007. Despite the setbacks she accomplished world class status.
