New York State Police are continuing to investigate what caused a tractor trailer to leave Interstate 81 in Cortland County and burst into flames, killing the driver.

The crash happened at around 5:52 a.m. Friday, April 8 on I-81 south in the Town of Homer.

State Police say a 45-year-old man from Trenton, New Jersey was driving the tractor trailer belonging to Granger Enterprises, incorporated when, for an unknown reason, he went off the road and hit trees.  The vehicle became engulfed in flames.

Authorities say they found the man dead in the cab.

The driver’s name has not been released.
