The second man accused of brutally torturing a Binghamton couple in 2013  and killing one of the victims could spend the rest of his life in prison.

26 year old Nigel Sauders was convicted in January on two counts of murder, attempted murder, robbery, burglary and assault for killing 23 year old Jordan Dordell and the attempted murder of Dordell’s pregnant, 19 year old, fiancé.

Sauders and 22 year old Julian Talamantez of Binghamton are accused of forcing the couple into the basement of their Mygatt Street house November 4, 2013, repeatedly raping the pregnant teen, punching and torturing Dordell and dousing the pair with lighter fluid and setting them on fire.

The woman played dead until the men left and escaped through a basement window.

The woman and her baby survived the attack.

Judge Martin Smith, in passing down the maximum sentence he could give Saunders of 25 years to life on the murder counts and seven years for assault, said he had never, in his over two decades on the bench, seen such a horrific murder case.

Talamantez was sentenced in October to 40 years to life in New York State Prison.

Sauders maintains his innocence and told the court he intends to appeal.
