New York State Police in the region have gotten calls recently about an email that demands Bitcoin ransom in order to keep sexually explicit videos from being sent to all the contacts in a person’s email and social media accounts.

The email sometimes even contains password information similar to the victim’s actual password.

The State Police say the emails are fake and people should not send any money.  In most cases, it is enough to ignore the email and change your password.  Remember never open any links that you are not familiar with.

If you have lost money in a scam, contact the New York State Police or your local law enforcement agency.
