New York Governor Andrew Cuomo November 19 announced Opportunities for Broome is getting $7.5 million to create 27 units and 80 beds of supportive housing for homeless families and individuals.

Under the funding, four zombie properties in downtown Binghamton will be rehabilitated for new housing units.  The funding will also support services like referrals, counseling, health programs and employment information.

The money is part of $56.5 million statewide to provide housing for veterans, survivors of domestic violence, older adults and individuals with mental illness.

The program is funded through the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance’s Housing and Assistance Program.
