The fate of the Toys R Us store in Johnson City remained uncertain as news reports indicated the big retailer was preparing to close 200 more locations.

The store on Harry L Drive just east of the Oakdale Mall escaped a round of closings announced by the company a few weeks ago.

In January, Toys R Us announced it was shutting down 182 stores, including five in upstate New York.

According to the Wall Street Journal, discussions are underway to finalize the next wave of closings. The story indicated the actual number of stores on the next shutdown list could be adjusted.

Traditional retailing continues to struggle because of increased online shopping. Last year, the Macy's and Sears stores in the Oakdale Mall were shut down because of poor performance.
