Mets Pitching Staff in Shambles
The once proud New York Mets pitching staff is in shambles. Filled with confidence, swagger and so much talent the standout young pitching aces in the Mets' organization have been crushed by arm and other injuries.
Going back a couple of seasons ago the thought of Matt Harvey, Noah Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom, Zack Wheeler and Steven Matz waiting to face your team sent fear into opposing managers and hitters. Not now. An overwhelming number of injuries have taken all but deGrom down.
The New York Mets have had a forgettable season. Injuries to everyday, position players have taken their toll but the pitching staff has really taken a hit. Of the five starting pitchers mentioned above only Jacob deGrom has been a major contributor. Hi is 15-9 with a 3.55 ERA. The other four have accounted for just 11 total wins. In the last ten games (as of September 21st) opponents have scored double figure run totals in four of them.
Zack Wheeler has been shut down for the season along with Steven Matz. Noah Syndergaard is attempting to come back before the season ends. Matt Harvey has been a shell of himself posting a record of 5-6 with an ERA of 6.59.
