Man Charged in Police Pursuit Crash that Hurt 90-Year-Old Woman
A 20-year-old Endwell man faces felony assault and reckless endangerment charges after a stolen pickup truck crashed into a car, seriously injuring a woman.
Authorities say Brandon Carlson was arrested by state police following the grinding collision at the intersection of Country Club Road and Stark Avenue.
A truck which had been taken from its owner in Endicott just before 2:30 p.m. Monday slammed into a compact Chevrolet sedan driven by 90-year-old Eileen Patch of Endwell.
Patch was being treated for injuries at Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. Her condition was not released.
Police say Carlson ran away from the scene after the crash but he was apprehended moments later by a state trooper. He was treated at Wilson for minor injuries and released.
In addition to the assault and reckless endangerment counts, Carlson was charged with criminal possession of stolen property and criminal mischief.
Endicott police say 24-year-old Richard Avery of Nichols - the owner of the pickup truck - was seriously hurt as he jumped on the vehicle in an effort to prevent Carlson from stealing it.
Carlson's brother - 23-year-old Dylan Carlson - also was injured as he attempted to persuade Brandon to stop the truck.
The vehicle was stolen from Squires Avenue, about two miles away from where it collided with Patch's car.
