The Maine Black Bears have defeated the Hartford Hawks by a final score of 74-65 to win the America East Women's Basketball Championship this (Friday) afternoon.  Maine was the number one seed and hosted the Hawks who were the number six seed.  The Hawks defeated Binghamton last weekend in a conference quarterfinal.

The game was played in the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, Maine. A reported 3,373 fans attended the event.  Maine was led by Blanca Millan who scored 22 points.  The Black Bears had five players who scored in double figures.  The teams were tied at 36-36 at the end of the first half.

The win gives the Black Bears their eighth America East title and the first since 2004.  The victory earns the Black Bears an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Championship Tournament.  The seedings and matchups will be announced on Monday evening.
