The New York State Public High School Athletics Association announced on Thursday that it is postponing the high school regional and state postseason tournaments for winter sports.

The statement issued by NYSPHSAA states this covers all Ice Hockey, Bowling, and Basketball Tournaments.

The Maine-Endwell girls and Johnson City boys basketball teams had games scheduled for Friday in Purchase, New York. Basketball games were also also scheduled to take place at the Floyd L Maines Veterans Memorial Arena on Sunday.

The world has been doing everything it can to lessen the impact of coronavirus, and now that process is affecting sports teams in the Southern Tier.

Per Kevin Stevens from Pressconnects, the Maine-Endwell girls and Johnson City boys basketball teams will play their state playoff matchups on Friday behind closed doors.

The report indicates the decision to block spectators at the games in Purchase, New York was made by Section 1 officials.

The Maine-Endwell girls are scheduled to face off against Hendrick Hudson at 5 p.m. on Friday, followed by Johnson City's game against Rye at 7 p.m.
