Johnson City Woman Accused of Filing Fraudulent Tax Returns
Federal prosecutors say a Johnson City woman is named in an 11 count indictment alleging she prepared and filed false income tax returns.
39 year old Lavyett Garcia was arrested at her home November 17. Five of the charges carry a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 with the other six charges carrying a maximum jail time of up to three years and a fine of up to $100,000.
Garcia is accused of preparing and filing false federal income tax returns in an effort to fraudulently obtain refunds from the U.S. Treasury Department.
A January 16th trial date has been set.
