Johnson City Police Investigating Wegmans Shooting Threat

Police in the village of Johnson City say they've learned that information has been circulating indicating a shooting incident may occur at the Wegmans store on Harry L. Drive.

The police department issued a statement around midday Friday that word has been "circulating that a shooting is set to occur over the weekend" at the Johnson City Wegmans store.

According to the statement, Johnson City police have not receive any credible threats to the supermarket or any other locations in the village.

The department reported it is working with Wegmans representatives in light of the information.

The agency said it will have police officers present at the Wegmans store throughout the information.

People who have information regarding any threats may contact the Johnson City Police Department at (607) 729-9321.

Johnson City police chief Brett Dodge and other agency officials could not be reached to provide additional details on what prompted the release of the statement or any other action that may be taken.

Managers at the Johnson City Wegmans store were not immediately available to discuss the matter.

The report of a possible threat of a shooting comes less than two weeks after 10 people were killed and three others were wounded by a man who opened fire at a Tops supermarket in Buffalo. Authorities say the shooter was an 18-year-old Conklin man. He has been charged with first-degree murder and is being held in Erie County.
