Johnson City Police Officer David “DW” Smith Remembered
Members of the Johnson City Police and the general community continue to mourn the loss of a hero who was killed in the line of duty five years ago.
March 31, Johnson City Police Officer David "DW" Smith. Jr.'s patrol car was parked on Harrison Street in front of Southern Tier Imaging to the west of Wilson Hospital where he was shot to death by a deranged man on March 31, 2014.
April 27 from noon - 3 p.m. the Johnson City Police Benevolent Association will host the D.W. Smith Memorial Fund benefit pasta dinner at the Endicott Elks Lodge, 619 N. Nanticoke Ave., Endicott, N.Y. Tickets are $10 for dine in or take out and are available at the JC Police Desk.
A 5K Remembrance Run/Walk is also held every year winding through the village inmemory of the fallen veteran police officer.
