Johnson City Police Release Name of Man Killed on New Year’s Eve
Investigators believe they know what caused the death of a Johnson City man who was stabbed at a Floral Avenue residence.
Authorities say 55-year-old Scott Groover died due to cardiac arrest caused by blood loss.
According to a village police news release, an autopsy was conducted Sunday at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton.
Detectives said Groover had been stabbed with a "sharp-edged weapon" on New Year's Eve. Police were sent to the Floral Avenue home shortly after 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Groover died shortly after he arrived at a hospital.
Investigators said a suspect - 33-year-old Kyle Babola of Johnson City - was taken into custody on Helen Street a few hours after the attack. Police said they've recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the attack.
Babola has been charged with second-degree murder. He was being held at Broome County Jail in the town of Dickinson.
