Greg Deemie has decided not to run for reelection as mayor of the village of Johnson City.

Deemie issued a statement on Saturday announcing that he "will not be taking part in this year's election."

The village board of trustees chose Deemie to serve as mayor in April 2012 following the resignation of Dennis Hannon.

In his announcement, Deemie wrote he has served the "community long enough to see it moving upward."

The mayor said he is "looking forward to spending "more time relaxing with my family and friends, on and off the golf course, with my phone turned off."

Deemie will be interviewed on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program at 9:30 Monday morning.
