Johnson City Firefighters Rescue Man From Burning House
One man was injured in a house fire in the village of Johnson City.
The blaze in a single-family house at 190 Baldwin Street was reported around 5:40 a.m. Tuesday.
Fire marshal Bob Blakeslee said there were two people in the residence when the blaze was discovered. One man who called 911 to report the fire managed to get out of the house safely.
The man advised firefighters that someone was still inside the structure. Blakeslee said firefighters entered the building and located the man inside a bedroom.
The injured man was transported to Wilson Medical Center, which is a few blocks north of the fire scene. The 56-year-old man sustained burns in the blaze. He was reported in serious condition.
Off-duty Johnson City firefighters were called in to assist at the scene. One unit from the Binghamton Fire Department also responded to the blaze.
Most of the fire damage was confined to one bedroom, although there was some smoke damage to the remainder of the house.
Blakeslee said fire investigators determined the cause of the blaze was electrical in nature. He said a space heater in the bedroom had been plugged into a daisy chain of power strips causing things to overheat, resulting in the fire.
