The Southern Tier districts are among 133 Smart Schools Investment Plans approved for $111 million in funding.

Some other school districts are investing their funds in modernizing classrooms and upgrading internet connections and classroom technology purchases like laptops, interactive whiteboards and tablets.  Investments are also being made in expanding pre-kindergarten classrooms in the state.

The Smart Schools Review Board that considers the investment plans submitted by districts and special education schools is made up of the New York State Director of Budget, the Chancellor of the State University of New York and the Commissioner of the State Education Department.
