It’s New York State’s Last Free Fishing Day of the Year!

It's the final time of the year to cast a line in New York state waters for free this year and the Governor wants everyone to take advantage of it. It coincides with Veterans Day to also honor those who have served.

When is The Last Day of Free Fishing in New York State?

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYDEC) announced that the final day of the year for free fishing is this Friday, November 11th, Veterans Day. During this final free fishing day, there is no fishing license needed to fish the fresh waters across New York state. You are encouraged to bring the entire family to experience fishing whether it be the first time or the one-hundredth time.

Free Fishing Day on Veterans Day

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that free fishing day would be held on Veterans Day to honor those who served. She added that fishing is one of the most therapeutic outdoor activities and makes it an ideal activity for veterans, active military members, and everyone who wants to enjoy the outdoors.

Thanks to our extensive conservation efforts to protect our natural resources and environment, New York continues to provide outstanding fishing opportunities for anglers of all skill levels and abilities. This free fishing day will provide a great opportunity for our brave individuals who have served to protect our democracy and our freedoms to enjoy one of New York State's many world-class fishing locations.
