
New York Ranks Top 10 in Pokémon Obsession
Pokémon Day is Friday, February 26th and they are having what is called the biggest event in their 30 year history. From trading cards to Nintendo Switch battles, Pokémon has been part of pop culture since 1996. It is the highest grossing media franchise in the world.
Montana Takes the Top Spot
A new study shows just how obsessed different states are with the Pokémon universe, including New York. ACE.com looked at Google search data from the last 36 months to see which states search for Pokémon characters the most.
Montana ranked number one, with more than 117,000 monthly searches for Pokémon characters. When adjusted for population, that comes to 1,024 searches per 10,000 people. Montana’s favorite Pokémon is Okidogi.

Where New York Lands
New York came in at number nine on the list. The state averages more than 1.4 million searches per month for Pokémon characters. That is 703 searches per 10,000 residents. New York’s favorite Pokémon is Lugia,
Other Pokémon Loving States
Washington ranked second, followed by Hawaii, Oregon, and California. Each state had its own favorite Pokémon. Hawaii loves Snorlax, and California’s top pick is Persian. The study only included Pokémon with at least 1,000 searches to make sure the results were reliable.
America’s Overall Favorite
Across the country, Pikachu is still the most searched Pokémon. Pikachu gets around 685,100 searches per month and has appeared in the movies. Whether it is collecting cards, playing video games, or searching for favorite characters online, people across the country are connected to the Pokémon world. And in New York, fans are still searching, battling, and choosing their favorites.
