I-86 Exit 65 in Owego Will Close for Two Weeks Starting July 10
If you travel through Owego in Tioga County on a regular basis, you'll want to plan a little extra time for your commute over the next couple of weeks.
The New York State Department of Transportation has announced that the eastbound entrance and exit ramps at Exit 65 on Interstate 86 in the Town of Owego will be closed beginning Thursday, July 10. The closures are expected to remain in place through Thursday, July 24.
Why the I-86 Exit 65 Ramps in Owego Are Closing
The temporary closure will allow crews to replace both eastbound ramps at Exit 65 and bring them up to current federal interstate standards. While the work is underway, drivers will not be able to enter or exit I-86 eastbound at that interchange.
The project is part of ongoing efforts to improve safety and modernize New York's interstate highway system.
I-86 Exit 65 Detour Routes and Closures
Drivers should follow the posted detour signs and use the eastbound entrance and exit ramps at Exit 64 instead.
If Exit 65 is part of your daily drive, it may be worth leaving a few minutes earlier than usual, especially during the first few days of the closure while traffic adjusts to the detour.
Checking Owego Construction and Traffic Delays
Before heading out, you can always check the latest road conditions and travel alerts through New York's 511 system to avoid unexpected delays.

The New York State Department of Transportation is also reminding drivers to slow down and move over whenever possible for highway workers. Construction crews will be working close to traffic, and reducing your speed helps keep everyone safe.
