Delaware County Man Sentenced to Maximum Prison Term for Weapon Possession
Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that Kenneth Dillmann, 30, of Hobart, New York, has pleaded guilty to one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony.
Dillmann was sentenced to three and a half to seven years in state prison, the maximum sentence allowed under the law.
Loaded Gun Found During Suspicious Vehicle Call
The charge stems from an incident on January 12, 2025, when the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Buena Vista on State Highway 28 in Delhi for a suspicious person and drug-related complaint involving two vehicles.
During the investigation, Sergeant Eric Alexander searched one of the vehicles and found a loaded pistol inside Dillmann’s backpack.

Court Appearance and Sentencing
Dillmann appeared in Delaware County Court on February 18, 2025, where he entered his guilty plea before Judge John L. Hubbard. He was officially sentenced on July 22, 2025.
The court handed down the maximum sentence permitted by law for the offense, three and a half to seven years in prison.

Law Enforcement Praised for Safe, Professional Response
District Attorney Smith commended the swift and effective efforts of law enforcement. “I am grateful for the work done by Sergeant Alexander, Deputy Justin Mohr, and Detective Croizer in this case,” said Smith. “Apprehending a convicted felon with a loaded pistol is extremely dangerous. The officers did it professionally, and no one was injured.”
