Upstate New York On Alert: Escaped Fugitive May Be Heading to Your Community
A man escaped police custody in Brewster, New York, and while he has not been confirmed in our area, we want you to know what to look for just in case.
Julio C. Sosa, 29, of the Bronx, fled from the New York State Police barracks in Brewster at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27. Law enforcement is actively searching for him, and given his proximity to Upstate New York, residents are being asked to keep their eyes open.
Sosa Was Last Seen Wearing All Black and a Hot Pink Coat
Sosa was being held on a nonviolent larceny charge at the time of his escape and is not considered a violent offender. That said, he is a fugitive, and you should not approach him if you see him. Sosa was last seen wearing all-black clothing with a distinctive hot-pink coat. If you spot someone matching that description in your area, keep your distance and call it in.
No Threat Confirmed Locally, But Residents Are Asked to Stay Alert
There is no confirmed threat to our area at this time, and officials say there is no known danger to the public. Sosa’s original charge was nonviolent, so again, there is no reason to panic. That said, a fugitive on the move can travel quickly, and our Upstate communities are not far from where this happened. A little awareness goes a long way, so keep your eyes open and trust your gut if something seems off.
Call 911 or the Brewster State Police Barracks If You Spot Sosa
If you believe you have spotted Sosa or have any information about his whereabouts, please report it. Call 911 if you see him directly or feel there is an immediate threat.

For tips, you can contact the New York State Police Brewster barracks at (845) 677-7300. Do not try to stop or confront Sosa yourself; just make the call and let law enforcement handle the rest.
