New Broome County Sheriff Weekend Hours For Pistol Permits
Today, March 26, 2026, the Broome County Sheriff's Office announced new hours for pistol permit processing.
Weekend Hours To Begin In April
Monthly weekend office hours will be offered beginning Saturday, April 11, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 12 Noon for those who are unable to visit during weekly business hours.
During the new weekend hours, BCSO will be helping process pistol permit applications and updates, gun registration, Sheriff Identification Cards, and other business. In addition, a new firearm safety course for community members to learn more about safe and responsible gun ownership will be offered.

Register For The Free Firearm Safety Course
Persons are invited to register for the first firearm safety course provided by the training division, which will also take place on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
It's a free firearm safety course that provides a general introduction to firearms, firearm safety, gun responsibility, safe handling, and proper storage. Those who register for the firearm safety course are subject to background checks and approval by the Broome County Sheriff’s Office before enrollment in the course.
Once completed and approved, registrants will be contacted with course details, times, and location for the April 11th training. The Broome County Sheriff's Office noted that space is limited for this course, so register sooner rather than later to ensure a spot.
Visit the Broome County Sheriff's Office Safety Course website for more information and to register.
From the start, we’ve focused on ways to improve every aspect of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office. From expanding visitation hours, programming and services in the Correctional Facility, to creating the Strategic Response Group to target persistent public safety concerns, to now expanding services and education for community residents and responsible gun owners. We’ve listened to several local residents who have been unable to make it into our ID/Pistol Permit Office during the week to apply for pistol permits, transfer ownership or make changes to their gun registry due to work schedule or other circumstances. These monthly weekend office hours offer more time for our residents to complete the necessary steps to ensure they remain lawful and responsible gun owners. - Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar
