More Than 800 People Wanted To Live In New Endwell Complex
Several hundred Broome County residents who tried to land an apartment in an affordable senior housing project in the town of Union are out of luck.
About 860 applications were submitted for the 80-unit Hooper Road Apartments in Endwell.
Construction was recently completed for the $30 million project next door to the existing Marian Apartments building.
CDS Housing of Monroe County had been working for years to develop the complex, which is located across the street from Maine-Endwell High School.
The company initially proposed a 115-unit building for the six acre site. The size of the project was reduced to include 78 one-bedroom and two two-bedroom apartments in the four-story building.
Andrew Sewnauth, CDS Monarch executive director, told WNBF News that the first residents are scheduled to move into the Hooper Road Apartments on Wednesday.
The apartments are to be occupied by people over the age of 62. Supportive services will be provided to residents of 40 units at the site.
The new building will be managed by The SEPP Group of Binghamton, which also oversees operations at the Marian Apartments.
