Then & Now: Upper Front Street Binghamton New York
It is amazing to me how much our community changes over time. Sure, change is constant in our lives and, well the rest of the universe for that matter.
From time to time, I like to take a look back at what things in our area looked like, versus now. It gives you quite a perspective of just how much has changed over time, even in just the last 10 or 20 years.
Not long ago, I took a look at Google Maps and compared certain sections of the Vestal Parkway with what it looks like today in an article. Quite a few changes in just a 10 to 15-year span.

I thought I would do the same for another part of the Triple Cites area. This time, I zoomed in on the upper portion of Front Street, as we refer to it as Upper Front Street.
When I began the project on Google Maps, I thought there would be just a few changes over a dozen years or so, but was I surprised that there was so much change. So much so, that I decided to make this article part one, so a part two article will be forthcoming.
Changes to Upper Front Street over the years include demolitions for new businesses or just empty lots, former businesses being replaced by new ones, and new businesses on formerly empty plots.
Take a look at the gallery below of some of the changes I found on Upper Front Street, beginning from the new roundabout at the (former) intersection of Old Front Street and Upper Front Street, up to the Interstate 81 underpass.
I will take a look further north from the I-81 underpass to the intersection with Route 12-A in a future article. Be looking for it!
