Four New York Cities Named Among The Best For A Winter Holiday

The winter season is, well, almost here. The holiday season is in full swing. And it's a great time for the year for a weekend getaway or vacation. Sure, most vacations are during the warmer months, but wintertime has become very popular.

A lot of people head to warmer climates both domestically and abroad. Crowds are low at popular destinations. I usually take a week of vacation during January or February and head south for a few days of warmth and fun.

But, not everyone heads south for a winter getaway. It's no secret that many prefer to take in the wonder of colder climates to get away from the work life. Outdoor activities like skiing, snowmobiling, skating, snowboarding or just enjoying a stay in a hotel or Airbnb where you can cozy up to a roaring fireplace with your favorite beverage, are inviting.

New York Cities A Popular Winter Destination?

And the thing is, you don't have to travel far for any of those things. New York State is full of winter getaways to suit just about anyone. According to Yahoo! Life, in a study from WalletHub, four New York State cities landed on a list of some of the best winter holiday destinations in the U.S.A.

In the top five, the first Empire State city comes in at #2, and that city is New York City. Why, well WalletHub says for one thing it is because the Big Apple area is the place with the cheapest flights from all major cities having no connections.

And NYC has plenty of winter activities to enjoy, including having the honor of being the home of the fifth-most ice skating rinks per capita.

Also in the top 30, WalletHub names Rochester at #27, the Buffalo area at #29, and the Capital area which includes Albany, Schenectady, and Troy round out the top 30.

Who is #1 on the list of best holiday winter destinations? That honor goes to Atlanta, Georgia. mostly because it is a warm winter destination. So there you go. Ideas for a winter getaway. I think I'll continue to head to ORL just the same and have a magical day or two or more!
