There are still some left? I thought they were all gone by now. Whenever I pass by the Binghamton Plaza on State Street, or the Bradford Town Center Plaza in Wysox, PA when I am at a nearby campground, I think of the store where I used to buy a fair amount of goods at great prices.

That business was the home of the Blue Light Special - Kmart, or depending on the store - Super Kmart or Big K Kmart. While I thought they had all closed nationwide, that is not true.

But, according to an Associated Press report, the last full-scale in mainland U.S. is about to shut off the blue light for good. This Kmart is the last one to survive in New York State. It's located in Bridgehampton on Long Island.

The AP contacted the store and an employee confirmed the closing would occur on October 20, 2024. When I checked the Bridgehampton Kmart website, it looked like a ghost town. Address and hours were pretty much all that showed up.

When this location closes, only one Kmart will be left operating in the mainland U.S. That Kmart is located in Miami, Florida. Transformco is the investment holding company that currently owns the Kmart brand.

But, there are other Kmarts. If you really need to visit one, you will have to travel to Guam or the U.S. Virgin Islands. Up for a long-distance trip to Kmart? Sounds like a fun, sunny, warm trip to see what the Blue Light Special of the day will be. Let's go!
