Summer brings a lot of fun outdoor events throughout the Southern Ter of New York and Northeast Pennsylvania. Just in the Greater Binghamton area, we have various town fairs, the Dick's Sporting Goods Open,  the LUMA Projection Arts Festival July Fest (although it is canceled for this year, to return in 2023), the Broome County Fair, and Spiedie Fest & Balloon Rally at Otsiningo Park Binghamton August 5th through 7th to name a few.

The LUMA Projection Arts Festival will be on September 9th and 10th in Downtown Binghamton and has become famous worldwide. Just last month (June 2022) People Magazine named LUMA as one of 100 Reasons To Love America.

The article mentioned that the festival name at #42 under "Cites As Art." But that's not surprising to those of us who have witnessed the LUMA Festival year after year. It's one of those rare spectacular events that most cities in the world don't get to enjoy.

And here's something cool that the LUMA Projection Arts Festival is doing this year in addition to new, eye-opening projections, they've joined with the Discovery Center of the Southern Tier with a Mural Mapping: Kids Edition Workshop.

The workshop is for kids 12 and under. The Discovery Center Facebook post states that selected area youth artworks will be featured as a projection during the 2022 LUMA Projection Arts Festival.

Templates will be available at The Discovery Center in their Summer Camps, along with the public, on August 4th between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. during their Tremendous Thursday event. The workshop is free with museum admission.

Can you imagine seeing your child's artwork lit up on a Downtown Binghamton building during the LUMA Festival? That's something to remember forever. And now's your child's chance to show off their art. For more information, visit the Discovery Center of The Southern Tier website.
