Interstate 88 Closed After Collision Involving DOT Plow and Truck

A section of Interstate 88 near Sidney was shut down following a crash involving a snow plow and another truck.

According to New York State Police, the collision occurred shortly before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the westbound lanes of the highway. The scene was just past Exit 9 in Bainbridge.

Investigators say a state Department of Transportation truck was plowing the left lane and shoulder. A garbage truck passed the DOT vehicle on the right side when it struck the snowplow wing.

Both vehicles went off the highway, coming to rest in the center median. I-88 was closed to westbound traffic for a time as crews worked to remove the damaged trucks.

The plow truck was driven by a 22-year-old Oxford man. The garbage truck, which is owned by Global Transportation, was operated by a 77-year-old man from Cleveland, Tennessee.

The highway was reopened around 2:20 p.m.
