Pennsylvania State Police say a Susquehanna County teenager is being charged with homicide and drunk driving in connection with a crash last month that left his passenger dead.

19 year old Derreck Anderson of Hop Bottom is accused of driving drunk on August 23 in Lenox township when he crashed the Volkswagen Jetta on Route 374 on a curve, killing 21 year old Shannon Schuler of Nicholson.

Police said the car spun 180 degrees, flew off a bank and hit a tree on the rear passenger side.

Authorities say the car had been traveling at a high rate of speed.

Anderson suffered injuries in the crash and investigators say he told them he had consumed several "Twisted Tea" alcoholic drinks and authorities say they also found  marijuana in his system.

Anderson is charged with homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance, involuntary manslaughter, speeding, careless driving and reckless driving.

He was sent to the Susquehanna County Jail.
